Hole in One!

Manning the Pin --- I found my Ace in the hole

SMITHVILLE, TN – October 14, 2008 RiverWatch Golf Club

Phil Brasher from Franklin, TN shot an “ace in the hole” at RiverWatch Golf Club Tuesday, October 14.

“The shot was short of the green, bounced about 3 feet and we lost sight of it, as it hit into the #16 green,” describes witness, Benjamin Stilt. “We looked for my golf ball a good five minutes, until I gave up.” It wasn’t until I was manning the hole for Ben; to my amazement I saw my Nike 1 Black in the hole for an Ace,” reports Phil.

The hole in one was Phil Brasher’s FIRST Ace. He smacked a Nike 1 Black with a Woods Brother’s 9 Iron from 151 yards out. Mr. Brasher estimates in the past 10 years, he’s played about 300 rounds of golf.

IN 1999, The Golf Digest study provided many great nuggets of information, even breaking the odds down by quality of play:
 Tour player making an ace: 3,000 to 1
 Low-handicapper making an ace: 5,000 to 1
 Average player making an ace: 12,000 to 1

 Average player acing a 200-yard hole: 150,000 to 1
 Two players from the same foursome acing the same hole: 17 million to 1
 One player making two holes-in-one in the same round: 67 million to 1
Source: Primary source is Golf Digest; more info on acer odds and holes-in-one can be found in the Sept. 2005 issue.

What a first timer had to say about our course..

We just received this in from a first time golfer at our course....

".... My husband and I play fairly regularly in Nashville. He has a 6 handicap and I am yet unrated but usually shoot high 90's if my short game escapes me or mid 90's if it does not. We played your course for the first time on our FIRST wedding anniversary. WOW what a beautiful course. I don't know how we'd never heard of you before researching a quick getaway to the lake for our anniversary, but I am SOOOO glad we have!

If you live within and hour's drive of cookeville, sparta, smithville, lebanon TN - you HAVE TO play this course. It will help your game so much because the fairways are beautifully groomed but are not exactly flat! The greens are kept in great order and there are undulations and cross cuts to really challenge even the most pro green reader.

The perilous hazards are well placed as are the Par 3's to give one a sense of hope! There are many elevation changes, 5 tee spots from which to choose to play - and if you cannot hit it straight.... well.... this course will teach you that straight is good and that a slice, properly placed might just work out, even if by accident!

RiverWatch is a must play for any middle TN golf enthusiast!"

WOw - what a nice review - and hey this is a blog so we get to show off here a little bit!

But, we encourage to come prove this newlywed couple wrong - come play out at our place, and just see if you don't totally enjoy your day in the wildlife reserve surrounded golf course!

Welcome to RiverWatch Golf!

Welcome to RiverWatch Golf Club's firt Blog!

Yes, we've come into the modern era and we had no idea how much people would have to say until we began to think about doing a blog!

In the ensuing weeks you will hear from some of our staff, management, players and thanks to the comments feature, you will even get to read what our guests have to say about RiverWatch Golf Club.

But first.... a little bit about the course.

RiverWatch Golf Club, located outside Sparta Tennessee, is the first 18-hole championship golf course on Center Hill Lake. Designed by Peter Jacobson and Jim Hardy, the 6,900 yard scenic layout transforms the natural landscape into challenging yet encouraging tests of ability for players of all levels.

Each unique hole is harmoniously woven into the spectacular surroundings of the property, a perfect illustration of golf and nature at their best. Arduous doglegs, dramatic elevation changes and well placed bunkers compliment the well manicured Zyosia fairways and Bent grass greens. While preserving the natural landscape RiverWatch Golf Club places an emphasis on accuracy and not length. Tree lined fairways and picturesque plateaus produce a difficult, yet inviting course for all levels of golfers to play.

We also have included a state-of-the-art portable GPS system that can be removed from the cart and positioned anywhere on the course. By providing five sets of tees to play from, we allow golfers of all abilities to play competitively within their group, while also offering the possibility of improvement and graduation to the next set of tees.

A first-class driving range allows guests to practice to a variety of target greens to warm up before their round or to improve their game by taking a lesson from one of our PGA professionals. Our short game and putting green entices golfers of all skill levels to polish up on the often neglected portion of their golf game.

We'd love to see you out for a round of golf - maybe even stay at one of the area's fine lake front chalet's, cabins or condo's and see us a few days each year. We treat folks like family around the lake, so come on out and be a part of the RiverWatch Golf Club family!
